Terms of Service
Last updated: September 9, 2026
Plain-language summary: TaxPeople.org is a directory. We help people find tax professionals and let those professionals publish a profile and answer questions publicly. We don't provide tax, legal, or financial advice ourselves, and we don't guarantee the accuracy of anything a professional publishes — verification means we checked what they told us, not that we vouch for their work.
1. Who these terms are for
These terms apply to everyone who uses TaxPeople.org, operated by Word.me LLC, d/b/a TaxPeople.org, 1900 Eddy St, San Francisco, CA 94115, USA ("we," "us"): visitors searching the directory, and professionals who create and publish an account ("Professionals"). By using the site or creating an account, you agree to these terms.
2. What the service is — and isn't
TaxPeople.org is a directory and public Q&A platform. It is not:
- a tax preparer, accounting firm, or law firm,
- a referral service that vets, employs, or supervises any Professional,
- a source of tax, legal, or financial advice — anything published on the site, including Q&A answers, is the Professional's own statement, not ours.
Any engagement you enter into with a Professional you find through this site is solely between you and that Professional. We are not a party to it, we don't take a fee from it, and we're not responsible for the quality, legality, or outcome of the work.
3. Accounts and credentials
- You must provide a real email address you control — it's how we authenticate you.
- Professionals must accurately represent their credentials (e.g. Enrolled Agent, CPA status) and license numbers. Misrepresenting a credential is grounds for immediate account termination.
- A "Verified" badge means an administrator checked the credential information you provided against a public or official source at a point in time. It is not a continuing guarantee, and it is not our endorsement of your work.
- You're responsible for keeping your published profile accurate and up to date.
4. Your content
You keep ownership of everything you write on your profile and in the public Q&A. By publishing it, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to display it on the site for as long as your account or that content remains published. That license ends the moment you unpublish the content or delete your account.
You agree not to publish content that is:
- false, misleading, or impersonating another person or firm,
- unlawful, defamatory, or infringing someone else's rights, or
- spam, or unrelated to tax, financial, or business advisory services.
We may remove content or suspend an account that violates this without prior notice.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- scrape, crawl, or bulk-extract data from the site outside of normal browsing,
- attempt to bypass the bot-verification (Turnstile) or authentication systems,
- use the sign-in system to send unsolicited email to third parties, or
- use the platform for any unlawful purpose.
6. Termination and deletion
You may delete your account at any time, permanently and immediately, from your dashboard — see our Privacy Policy for exactly what that removes. We may suspend or terminate an account that violates these terms, misrepresents credentials, or is used fraudulently or abusively. Where reasonably possible, we'll tell you why.
7. Disclaimers
The service is provided "as is," without warranty of any kind. We don't warrant that the directory is complete, that any Professional's listed credentials remain current, or that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free. Nothing on this site is tax, legal, or financial advice, and using it doesn't create a professional relationship between you and us.
8. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the site or from any engagement with a Professional found through it. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law, including, where the GDPR or local consumer-protection law applies, any rights that legislation grants you.
9. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the service evolves. We'll update the date at the top when we do; for material changes, we'll note it on the homepage.
10. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-law principles, and any dispute not otherwise subject to arbitration will be brought in the state or federal courts located in San Francisco County, California. Where you are a consumer resident in the EU/EEA or UK, mandatory consumer-protection provisions of your home country continue to apply regardless of this clause.
